Breaking the pattern of bad habits

Win The Morning, Win The Day, Easy Right?

Healthy Hustle Weekly

Hey Healthy Entrepreneurs,

We have become morning people, not for any other reason than we believe its the best way for us to achieve maximum productivity. There are so many reasons why an early start is good for you, but I’m not going to list them here.

I want to talk about how hard it is. Wow, dragging myself out of bed every morning at 6am is hard. It’s not even that early compared to a lot of people. It means going to bed earlier and getting up before it’s light. It’s tough. So how do we do it?

We found accountability. We go live on our Instagram most weekday mornings at 6:30am for people to find accountability with us. Sometimes no one joins, sometimes lots of people do. The point is, we show up, we’re there to talk about what’s going on in our day, what you’re up to and to give a spark of inspiration.

Creating a habit like an early morning walk is actually really easy. We know the formula. It’s around 21 days of consistency, pre-planning and accountability. That means that creating a bad habit is just as easy, right? Yes.

I was speaking to an Olympic gold medallist yesterday. That’s a first for me, it was not a normal Monday! He was speaking to this point and described how the hardest thing about sustained peak performance through habits is breaking the pattern of a bad habit. How do you realise you’ve got a bad habit and then cut it out?

That’s self reflection, discipline and again accountability. The biggest shift for me here was about mindset. The mindset to look at yourself and stop your bad habits, not matter how good they make you feel in the short term.

Cool stuff this week

England are doing pretty well at the Rugby World Cup, does that count as cool?

We discovered PerfectTed. A matcha energy drink, which won Dragons Den in the UK and is currently sponsoring @hardestgeezers run. A brand really worth looking out for. Here they are.

Talking of @hardestgeezer, if you haven’t seen him on Instagram or Youtube, it’s an awesome story to follow. He’s running the length of Africa to inspire people to do more with their lives and push themselves. Check it out Here.

And whilst I’m on the subject of Dragons Den, or Shark Tank if you’re in the US, Steven Bartlett has started a vlogging channel on Youtube and recently took us behind the scenes of the iconic show. Watch it here.
